Carlos Muniz, sophomore from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, wins the Paul Somers Male Athlete of the Year award for the Southwestern athletic department. Muniz, who missed most of his freshman campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic, looks to finish out a great career for the Spartan baseball program.

Throughout the powerful Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, Muniz ranks sixth in batting average, 23rd in on base percentage, seventh in hits, second in doubles, and fifth in home runs. Head coach, Jordan Camp, had this to say on Muniz: "Throughout the recruiting process, you are never sure what you will get. When Charlie stepped foot on campus, he didn't have the best English and was rough around the edges on the field. Hard work, being coachable, and determination allowed him to earn this award. To say I'm proud would be an understatement."

Congratulations to Charlie Muniz on the honor!
