Muniz earns All-American honor

Southwestern Community College sophomore Carlos Muniz recently became the fifth Spartan baseball player in program history to earn All-American honors.

Muniz, of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, received NJCAA Division I Honorable Mention All-America. He is the first Spartan baseball player in 18 years to receive All-American honors.

The slugging right-hander hit for a .399 average in 2021, with 13 home runs, 17 doubles, 47 runs batted in and a .713 slugging percentage. His .399 batting average ranked second in the ICCAC, while his .713 slugging percentage ranked third.

In the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, Muniz hit for .408 average with eight home runs, three doubles, 28 runs batted in and a .959 slugging percentage.

In addition to being named Honorable Mention All-American, Muniz was also first team All-Region XI at catcher, and voted the top position player in the region. He received the Southwestern's 2021 Paul Somers Male Athlete of the Year award, and was academic all-region both in 2020 and 2021.
