The Southwestern men's basketball team took a Tueday evening trip to National Junior College Athletic Association Division I in-state opponent Marshalltown Community College. The Spartans looked to get a win in a string of challenging away games before heading into a home contest against Kansas City Kansas Community College on Friday night.

The Marshalltown defense held Southwestern to its lowest point total of the season, only scoring 68 in the 77-68 loss. "Obstacles are just opportunities for us to get better," discussed Head Coach Devin Kastrup. "We will continue to work and improve." The Spartans were led in scoring by sophomore Akeen Woods and his 21 points, the highest of his Southwestern career.

While the offense was not clicking on all cylinders, Kastrup noted the high-caliber of play by freshman Charles Johnson. "He played an all-around good game; he brought it for 40 minutes." Johnson had 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals to go with his 9 points.

The Spartans look to right the ship after four consecutive road games against elite NJCAA opponents. On Friday, Nov. 22, the Spartans will be back on their home floor to take down the Blue Devils of Kansas City Kansas Community College. The game will begin at 7 p.m.
