Muggeridge Makes Spartan Golf History with All-American Finish at NJCAA Nationals

Creston, IA – May 27, 2025

Freshman Freddie Muggeridge etched his name into Southwestern Community College history last week, becoming the first-ever golf All-American for the Spartans. Muggeridge earned the honor by finishing tied for 15th at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship in Plymouth, Indiana—securing a coveted Top-18 flag and solidifying his place among the country's elite at the two-year college level.

Muggeridge entered the national tournament ranked No. 49 in the country and No. 23 in NJCAA Region XI. Competing as an individual, he opened the championship in commanding fashion, placing inside the top five after each of the first three rounds. However, the final day proved challenging, as he posted his highest score of the week and ultimately dropped into a tie for 15th overall at 12-over-par.

His round-by-round scores of 74 (+2), 71 (-1), 73 (+1), and 82 (+10) brought his total to 300 strokes over four days. While the final round prevented a top-10 finish, Muggeridge's early consistency and mental toughness were evident throughout the week, particularly as he navigated the pressure of representing Southwestern on the national stage for the first time.

"Freddie's performed when it mattered," said Head Coach Doug North. "To watch him go toe-to-toe with the best in the country as a freshman and come away as our first All-American is a milestone not just for him, but for the entire program."

Muggeridge's freshman season was marked by steady performances and signs of elite potential. He played 31 competitive rounds with an adjusted scoring average of 74.8 and a win-loss-tie record of 369-126-29 in stroke play events. Though he did not notch an individual victory, he recorded three top-three finishes.

As Southwestern continues to grow its presence nationally, Muggeridge's All-American and PING All-Region Team distinction serves as a turning point for the program. With one more year at Southwestern and a season of national championship experience under his belt, expectations will only grow for the standout from England.

"This is just the beginning for Freddie," said Coach North. "This is now the new standard for Spartan golf: Academic National Champions last year, our first All-American this year."

Muggeridge's All-American finish marks a significant step forward for Spartan Golf, reflecting the growing competitiveness of Southwestern's program in the NJCAA and beyond.
