Spartans Finish in Second Place

The Spartan Cross Country team spent Friday evening having a great race at the Bill Buxton Invitational hosted by Simpson College. The Spartans took second place and head coach Scott Vicker had this to say, "They once again executed our race plan well, staying relaxed for the first half mile and then racing, which allowed them to pick off runners one at a time throughout the race. I thought our guys flashed their potential tonight and should gain some confidence from running as well as they did."

The Spartans were led by a ninth-place finish by Josh Baudler, who finished second of all non-Simpson College runners. Coach Vicker added. "Josh ran another great race with his second straight top 10 finish. I was excited about how well York (Miles) and Jon (McCall) moved up throughout the race. They are just scratching the surface of what they're capable of so I'm looking forward to seeing how much they improve over the course of the season."

Other Spartan finishers: Miles in 15th place, McCall in 20th place, Robert Norton in 26th place, Connor Koppa in 27th place, Nicholas Mather in 34th place, Conrad Schroeder in 35th place, Ahmed Fofana in 42nd, and Levi Detrick in 43rd.

Up next for the Spartans is "The Crest" Cross Country Festival on Saturday, September 11th. The morning will start with high school races, followed by college and then middle school.
