HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Chase Oates capped off his Southwestern cross country career with a strong 21st-place finish Saturday at the NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships held in John Hunt Cross Country Park.
Chase Oates of Southwestern was named the Athlete of the Year for Division II. The sophomore won the race on his home course finishing first among the 38 runners participating. Oates' time of 26:50.0 was the top on a cold windy day in Creston. He ran a time of 25:36.6 at the Indian Hills Invitational, which was his best of this season.

First Team performers received a 3.5 grade point average or above, while Second Team members earned between a 3.0 and a 3.49 GPA. A student's highest GPA was recognized, either their cumulative GPA or their fall semester only GPA. Nearly 1,300 student-athletes reached First-Team recognition and just under 800 earned Second Team status.
