Creston, IA—Ella Rutherford, who hails from Niantic, IL, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Spartans of Southwestern Community College in Creston.

Rutherford, who will pitch and play infield for the Spartans, graduated from Sangamon Valley High School in May 2018. She was named Penn Station Senior Student Athlete of the Year for the Peoria/Forsyth, IL, area this year. Other high school honors for Rutherford included honorable mention all-conference in 2015 and 2018, the Fireman's Award in 2015, and 2018 Female Senior Athlete of the Year for Sangamon Valley High School.

Weinmeister couldn't be happier to gain Rutherford on his 2018-19 roster.

"We are very fortunate that Ella delayed her decision to choose a college and that she has chosen to become a Spartan," Weinmeister stated. "She will be utilized all over the field for us, playing both infield and pitching."

Weinmeister said Rutherford is not only a great softball player, but a great student as well.

"Ella will fit in perfectly with the new direction of this program," Weinmeister explained.

Rutherford was named to the High Honor Roll at Sangamon Valley all four years of high school.

She is the daughter of Scott and Marjorie Rutherford of Niantic, IL.
