The Southwestern Community College sports shooting team hosted Indian Hills at the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance shooting range for their first home meet of the year on Saturday, Sept. 21. Southwestern took the win with a 466 to Indian Hills’ 458.

In the individual medals Tyllar Roesener took the gold in the men’s division with a 96 and Morgan Pierce won a shoot-off for second place with a score of 95. Courtney Nielsen won the women’s division and had the high overall score for the second meet in a row, with a 98.

The team score was made up of the following:
Nielsen – 98
Roesener – 96
Pierce – 95
Devin Meeks – 91
Carter Griffin -- 86

Head Coach Marc Roberg said he knew the Spartans would need to fight hard individually to come out on top as a team.

"I reminded my student-athletes we have a small team overall and I knew it would be even smaller for this meet since three people could not compete," Roberg said. "I challenged everyone to bring their A game, because Indian Hills is a tough team, and everyone did."

Roberg said it was a great day for Southwestern.

"I couldn’t be happier with the way the team shot," stated Roberg. "It was overcast and windy, but still almost everyone shot their season best."

The Spartans’ next meet is Thursday, Sept. 26, at home against Grand View JV. The start time is 5 p.m. Southwestern's next conference meet is at home on Saturday, Sept. 28, against Ellsworth Community College, starting at 11 a.m. Home meets are held at the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance Shooting Range, 2216 130th St., in Afton.
