The Southwestern Community College sports shooting team posted a win after hosting Northwest Missouri State University at the High Lakes Shooting Range in Afton on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019, in a non-conference trap shoot. The Spartans took the win 459 to 455.

The top five shooters for the Spartans were Carter Griffin-95, Morgan Pierce-93, Grant Goering-91, Tyllar Roesener-90 and Courtney Nielsen-90. Griffin's 95 was good enough to take the men's title while Pierce's 93 took third. Nielsen won the women's division with a 90. Mallory Shelton was second with an 85. Makenna Lilly was third with an 84.

Southwestern Head Coach Marc Roberg thought his team shot very well considering the weather.

"It was cold and very windy with winds gusting between 30 to 40 miles per hour," explained Roberg. "To shoot as well as we did was a testament to the toughness of these kids."

The Spartans next meet is November 1 and 2 at Grand Island, Nebraska, for the ACUI Midwest Conference Championships.
