The Southwestern Spartans women's basketball team took their season opener 80-45 over Graceland JV on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.
According to Addae Houston, head women's basketball coach, the Spartans came out sluggish, but got there with time.
"We had a slow start," Houston stated, "but our defensive effort and adjustments put pressure on their guards which led to several turnovers for easy transition points."
Several Spartans reached double-digit scoring during the outing:
- Keaundra Washington, sophomore, Omaha, NE - 15 pts
- T'Keyah Stapleton, sophomore, Omaha, NE - 14 pts
- Jasmine Aviles, freshman, Crawfordville, FL - 14 pts
- Fallyn Beemer, sophomore, Bedford - 10 pts
Up next for the Spartans, is a home game vs. Little Priest Tribal Community College on Nov. 4, at 1 p.m.
Last year the Spartans swept the Warriors, 2-0, during the regular season. Then, the Spartans face Marshalltown at home on Nov. 7, 2017, at 5:30 p.m.
