JEFFERSON - Greene County senior Brianna Osterson made her commitment official Tuesday afternoon, signing her National Letter of Intent to join the Southwestern track and field program during a ceremony in the Greene County High School auditorium.

Osterson will graduate from Greene County High School in May. She is the daughter of Jim and Lynnae Osterson of Paton.

Osterson is a big addition to the Spartan track and field program for Scott Vicker, director of cross country/track and field.

"Brianna was someone I identified very early on as someone we could really build this program around," Vicker said. "I knew from my first conversation with Brianna that she would bring something special to our program. She will be a great leader for us, as her determination and work ethic will help set the tone for our team."

Osterson has been a three-sport standout at Greene County High School. She received first-team all-conference honors in volleyball during her senior season, leading the Rams with 245 kills and 38 service aces, while ranking second with 25 blocks. Her 245 kills also led the Heart of Iowa Conference. Osterson continued her strong senior year by earning honorable mention all-conference in basketball. She received academic all-conference honors in both volleyball and basketball during the 2020-21 school year. She is a three-year letterwinner in both volleyball and basketball.

Track and field is where Osterson has shined brightest during her high school career. She qualified for the Drake Relays long jump as both a freshman and a sophomore. She also qualified for the state meet in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. Osterson owns high school PRs of 17 feet, 3 inches in the long jump, 1:03.91 in the 400 meter dash, and 27.78 in the 200 meter dash. Osterson will be a four-year letterwinner in track and field.

"I have seen Brianna's athleticism on display in both volleyball and basketball," Vicker said. "She has already had a great track and field career, but now that she will be focusing solely on track, I believe Brianna will see big improvement in both her sprints and her jumps. I'm excited about her potential for growth in the sport."

Osterson plans to study nursing at Southwestern.
