Mark Potter, guest speaker and former Newman University men's basketball coach

Southwestern Community College and Greater Regional Health are partnering to bring Mark Potter, former Newman University men’s basketball coach, to the SWCC campus on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m., in the Student Center gymnasium, to educate students, employees, and coaches about the impact of mental health and overcoming obstacles.

Potter inspires and challenges audiences with his personal story of victory over severe depression. During his presentation, he will share his own experience of overcoming obstacles and even suicidal thoughts. His wife, Nanette, will also share her perspective and give practical suggestions for caregivers to assist in these situations.

Through this presentation, Potter said his desire is to share stories of victory and ways to help students, instructors, coaches, employees, and business owners reach their greatest potential. In addition to his insights on leadership, accountability, integrity, and teamwork, Potter’s story shows perseverance over a disease that is not openly talked about.

Potter is being brought to SWCC’s campus through collaboration of Greater Regional Health, Lakeside Casino, and SWCC.

The public is welcome to attend.
