CRESTON, Iowa – The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Spartan Athletic Department has once again set the bar high, finishing the Fall 2024 semester with a remarkable 3.13 cumulative GPA among all student-athletes. This achievement marks the eighth consecutive semester with a department-wide GPA above 3.0 and the fourth straight surpassing the 3.10 mark.

"The athletic administration at Southwestern is incredibly proud of the efforts of our student-athletes in the classroom during the fall semester. Balancing the life of an athlete, as well as a student, is not an easy task," remarked Cole Higgins, Director of Athletics. "We take great pride in our academics, and we look forward to continuing that tradition."

Highlighting this achievement, 56 Spartan student-athletes earned a place on the prestigious First Team 2024 Fall Academic All-Region, achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Additionally, 27 Spartans were recognized on the Second Team 2024 Fall Academic All-Region with GPAs ranging from 3.0 to 3.49.

Region 11 Academic All-Region Program Details

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) announced the Academic All-Region honors for the Fall 2024 semester earlier this month. Student-athletes were recognized based on their highest GPA, either cumulative or semester-only, with the following criteria:

• First Team: GPA between 3.5-4.0
• Second Team: GPA between 3.0-3.49
• Students must meet NJCAA eligibility standards, including a minimum number of credit hours.
• Every sport is recognized each semester.

A Commitment to Academic Success

Over 2,500 student-athletes across Region 11 were honored this semester, with more than 1,600 First Team recipients and over 900 Second Team honorees. Southwestern's 83 total honorees reflect the college's ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence among its student-athletes.
