Southwestern baseball has landed four more recruits from four high school baseball programs as the coaching staff continues to build the Spartans 2019-20 lineup.

The Spartans' latest recruits include:

  • Player information and bio: Kyle Burns- OF, Sioux City East; Signed January 10, 2019. Burns hit .286 last summer with 10 doubles, one homerun and 27 RBIs. The Black Raiders (25-14) finished one game shy of reaching the Class 4A state tournament. Burns is also ranked as the 27th best OF prospect in the state of Iowa for the 2019 class, according to Prep Baseball Report, and is ranked 122nd overall.
Coach's outlook: We will be losing a couple of key guys in the outfield after this spring and we look forward to getting Kyle on campus. He will have a shot to earn a spot right away and we believe he fits well in our program.
  • Player information and bio: Brody Sandin- RHP, Bondurant-Farrar; Signed February 11, 2019. Sandin recorded 28 Ks in 26.2 innings last summer for the Blue Jays (17-16) and helped his team reach the Class 3A state quarter-finals. Sandin is also ranked as the 15th best RHP prospect in the state of Iowa for the 2019 class, according to Prep Baseball Report, and is ranked 86th overall.
Coach's outlook: Like every year, we are looking to add pitching depth to our roster. Brody has seen a jump in velocity over the last couple of years and we see that continuing as he develops. He has the potential to be one of our hardest throwers and we will get to work right away in the fall to help maximize that potential.
  • Player information and bio: Trey Rodriguez- OF, Kearney (NE); Signed February 25, 2019. Rodriguez hit .424 with 10 doubles, one triple and two homeruns for the Kearney Post 52 Legion baseball team that finished 35-16 last summer. He knocked in 33 runs while scoring 60.
Coach's outlook: Trey is another great addition to our outfield. He is a high character guy that works hard and comes from a solid Legion program in Nebraska. We look forward to getting him on campus next fall and getting to work.
  • Player information and bio: Kade Tharp- Utility, Davis County; Signed February 27, 2019; Tharp had a breakout season last summer for Davis County hitting .427 with 10 doubles, eight homeruns and 34 RBIs. He also recorded 33 Ks in 26.1 innings with a 3.46 ERA.
Coach's outlook: Kade is a solid all-around baseball player that we are excited to bring in. He can play a couple of different positions in the field (C/3B) and can also eat up some innings for us on the mound. Having players like him can be extremely valuable and we will work to utilize him the best we can.
