Southwestern Community College announced today Jordan Camp, assistant baseball coach at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, will take over as Southwestern’s head baseball coach in June.

Camp, who has been the assistant at Indian Hills since June 2016, helped the program win the 2017 Region XI Championship, their first championship since 2004. That same year, two Indian Hills players received NJCAA All-American recognition. During his time at Indian Hills, the program saw 13 student-athletes transfer to Division I institutions and two players get drafted in the major league baseball first-year player draft.

Prior to coaching at Indian Hills, Camp coached the Joplin Outlaws, a collegiate summer program located in Joplin, Missouri, and was an assistant baseball coach and dorm supervisor at Ellsworth Community College in Marshalltown.

Doug North, Southwestern athletic director and athletic fundraiser, said Camp’s years of experience in coaching at the collegiate level made him a great candidate for this position.

“Jordan has earned the respect of many during his time coaching and that was apparent early-on,” North pointed out. “He has assisted in all facets of working with a highly respected NJCAA team. We are anxious to have him bring this expertise to Southwestern as he begins working with our student-athletes.”

Camp is equally excited to begin at Southwestern and said he liked what he saw during the interview process.

“I was very interested when the head baseball coach position became available because there seems to be a lot of positive energy radiating around the school,” Camp stated. “It has been a dream and a goal of mine to become a head coach at the collegiate level, and this seemed like a perfect fit …The plan is to build a program that both Southwestern Community College and the community of Creston can be proud of.”

Camp said his hope with students is to share knowledge and passion for the game while instilling the strong desire to succeed in the classroom.

Camp earned his Associate of Arts from Ellsworth Community College in May 2010. He transferred to the University at Buffalo where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in May 2012. He is currently working toward his Master of Arts degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.

He replaces Kenny Namanny, who finished up with the Spartans following the spring 2019 season after two years at the helm and five years assisting with the Spartan baseball program.
