The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) dance team ended their 2021-22 season with accolades, leading to some new hardware (pictured above), following the 2022 Dance Team Union Virtual National Championships in March.

The Spartans competed in the Open Division for pom, hip hop, and jazz, earning the following placings: hip hop, third place; jazz, fourth place; and pom, third place.

Paige Busch, SWCC head dance coach, said she was looking for additional opportunities for her team to compete when she ran across these unique online championships. She knew it would be the perfect fit for the Dazzlers dance team.

“Our team was dedicated and worked hard from the start of the season,” explained Busch. “When I saw these championships being promoted I thought it would be great to finish our season with one last competition.”

Busch said her team competed against community colleges and universities from across the United States, which was a first for the Spartans.

“All season long the girls continued to impress me and improve from performance to performance and this competition was no different,” said Busch. “This competition was judged by national judges and allowed the college to experience its first nationals. Even if the event was virtual, it was an accomplishment to be able to compete, place so well, and finish the year with a bang.”
