The Spartan Men's 2015-2016 golf team teed off for the final time this weekend. The Spartans competed in the Region XI Championship on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora, Iowa.

"I am extremely proud of this team," boasted Coach North on the teams 6th place finish, led by Avery Elliott who tied for 10th place. "Avery was in 6th place after day one, and didn't play outstanding, so he was excited for Sunday. He had a rough start on Sunday, being six over par after four holes was not in the plan. Most golfers at this level would have fallen apart, but he was just grinding the rest of the day and, unfortunately, had no birdies fall. The 82 doesn't look great on paper, but he was just four over in those final 14 holes, which is solid."

Coach North discussed his leader, "I'm proud of him. Second Team All-Conference is no easy task. Four teams from our conference were ranked in the top-25 in the nation and competing at a high level."

The Spartans were rounded out with a 16th place finish by Dominick Moreno, a 31st place finish by Ben Sandquist, a 33rd place finish by Christian Groumoutis, and a 35th place finish by Jared Baier. "I couldn't have asked for a better team for my first year. The future is bright, and I'm looking forward to Ben, Christian, and Jared coming back in the fall and setting the example for my incoming freshman. Hard work pays off."
