The Southwestern Spartan men's and women's golf teams competed in Marion this weekend at the Klocke Family Classic, hosted by Mount Mercy and held at Hunters Ridge Golf Course on September 9-10, 2017.
The Spartan women were led by sophomore Sydney Goltl and she finished in a tie for 23rd. Goltl led the Spartans' four-person team to a sixth place finish.
"The girls did well," said Spartan Head Coach Doug North. "We improved by more than 20 strokes from day one to day two in our first tournament."
The Spartan men were led by Oliver Pearson, a freshman from Melbourne, Australia, and he tied for a 22nd place finish. Pearson improved by seven strokes from day one to day two, and the team improved by six strokes.
"Ollie is a leader and is very dissatisfied with his finish. This whole team is competitive and they aren't satisfied," said North. "This is probably the most competitive tournament we will compete in this fall, so we know where we stand early this year."
In a field with only four NJCAA schools, the Spartans finished 13th of 17 teams.
