The Southwestern Spartan men's golf team competed in the Graceland Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at the Lamoni Golf and Country Club. The Spartans battled for the win, but ultimately finished in third by just two strokes.
The Spartans played well in windy and dry conditions. With the lack of irrigation in the fairways, scores were higher than anticipated.
"We definitely played some holes great, but we missed some par opportunities that we need to have as this season progresses," said Spartan Head Coach Doug North. "We are close and we battled much better than earlier this year."
The Spartans, who played very consistent, were led again by freshman Ollie Pearson.
"Ollie has a mental toughness that is hard to find," commented North. "He started off three over par and got his rough to one under at one point, and finished at one over. He is our leader and takes this loss hard, but he'll bounce back and play great on Monday."
