Doug North has been head coach for men’s and women’s golf at Southwestern since June 2015. North prides himself in being at the helm of a program with a history that dates back to the late 1960s.
“I’m very thankful to have this opportunity to make a difference at Southwestern,” North stated. “The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference [ICCAC] has a rich history and has been dominated by a few schools on the golf scene. Each year, we’re making an impact and seeing what we can do about that trend.”
North has an extensive history with the game of golf. North is a graduate from Creston High School, where he competed as the number one golfer for many years. He also led the Spartans in his only season as a collegiate golfer.
“I missed out and didn’t continue my playing career, no regrets, but I will work as hard as any of my players at getting them to compete at the next level if that is what they want to do,” North reflected.
North obtained his United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF) Level III teaching license shortly after college. The qualifications to obtain that level of licensure are: five days of golf instruction; an exam to check set-up, grip, posture, alignment, and the swing of a student; and a playing test including four rounds on a championship caliber course to meet program requirements.
