Spartans 2-0 on Weekend; 6-0 Overall

Southwestern's men's basketball team had the first road trip in its young season and defeated host Central Community College (NE), 95-89, and downed Southeast (NE) on a neutral court, 87-76. The wins moved the #1-ranked Spartans to 6-0.

Terence Shelby led the way both nights with 30 points vs Central and 18 vs Southeast.

"Terence can really shoot the ball and he exploited their zone defense," said Spartan Coach Todd Lorensen. "Credit to him for knocking down the shots and credit to his teammates for finding him."

For the first time this season, the Spartans trailed at halftime vs Central by a score of 54-51 and trailed by double digits in the first frame. Southwestern took the lead just a minute into the second half and it was back and forth the majority of the second half. With around five minutes to play, the Spartans finally seized control of the game and held on for the win.

"It was good for our group to face that type of adversity and even better that we found a way to fight through it and win," said Lorensen.

It was a quick turnaround as the Southwestern men found themselves taking the court little more than 14 hours after their hard-fought win on Friday. Shelby added 10 rebounds to go with his 18 points for a double-double. Nate Lee added 17 points off the bench, while Chad Moran had 12 and the backcourt of Khallid Edwards and Alijah Thomas each chipped in 10.

"It felt like we were a little tired at times, yet our guys found a way to get the job done. Our second half defense both nights was much improved from the first half. Hopefully we can have better focus and effort on that end from the tip this week," said Lorensen.

Southwestern returns to action on November 21, as they host North Central Missouri College at 7:30 p.m.
