Spartans Win on Road

Southwestern men's basketball used an 18-0 run in the first half to seize control in their 91-80 win at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, MO, on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The run gave the Spartans a 21-6 lead, which they extended into a 51-32 halftime advantage.

Terence Shelby scored 23 points in the outing, while Gatdoar Kueth and Chad Moran each had 15.

"I really liked our mindset from the moment we hit the practice floor this week," said Spartan Head Coach Todd Lorensen. "It's no coincidence that quality days of practice lead to quality performances on game night."

Coming off its first loss of the season, Southwestern used the road win to extend their overall record to 8-1. It also marked the third consecutive year that Southwestern has swept the season series with the Pirates from NCMC.

The game was the first of three games in four days, as the team travels to Ottumwa for the Indian Hills Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2. The Spartans will square off with William Penn JV at 4:30 p.m. on Friday night and then move to a 7 p.m. tip on Saturday with undefeated and NJCAA D1 Indian Hills.

Lorensen said he knows the Warriors will be looking to avenge a 102-91 loss in Creston last year.

"They have a great program, tradition, support, and coaching," Lorensen stated. "We are excited to play in a championship environment and realize we have to be solid in all facets of the game."
