Spartans earn first conference victory

The Southwestern Community College men's basketball team picked up its first ICCAC victory of the season Wednesday in an 80-64 win over Ellsworth in the SWCC Student Center Gymnasium.

Trailing 29-28 after the first half, the Spartans outscored Ellsworth 52-35 in the second half to improve to 12-8 for the season an 1-4 in ICCAC play.

Southwestern finished with five players scoring in double figures, led by Ryan Warren's 19 points. Warren added five rebounds and a team-high five assists in the win. D'Marqueyon Whittington chipped in 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point arc to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomores Gatdoar Kueth and Chad Moran, along with freshman Willshon Warren - playing in his first game of the season - all scored 11 points apiece. Kueth finished with five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Southwestern Community College travels to Winnebago, Nebraska, Saturday to take on Little Priest Tribal College. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
