Spartans win third in a row

SWCC vs. Little Priest Tribal College

The Southwestern Community College men continued their hot shooting in a 96-83 ICCAC win over Little Priest Tribal College Saturday afternoon in the SWCC Student Center gymnasium.

The win marked the third in a row for Southwestern, which improved to 3-22 for the season and 3-7 in ICCAC play.

Sophomore point guard Ryan Warren led the way, missing a triple-double by two rebounds as he scored 18 points with 10 assists and eight rebounds to go with three steals. Willshon Warren led the Spartans in scoring with 21 points and five rebounds, shooting 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc. Sophomores Gatdoar Kueth and Jordan Doss each recorded double-doubles, as Kueth scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and Doss added 12 points and 10 boards off the bench. Redshirt freshman Noah Persich came up big in the first half, knocking down four 3-pointers in the half on his way to 16 points and four assists for the game.

Chad Moran pitched in seven points and four rebounds, while Trevonte Diggs netted six points with six boards and Marquas Gafeney dished out three assists with two points.

As a team, the Spartans shot 45.2 percent from the floor and 14 of 32 from behind the 3-point line.

Southwestern saw an 18-point halftime lead trimmed to 10 points midway through the second, but the Spartans shot 16 of 20 at the free throw line to keep Little Priest Tribal College at bay. Defensively, Southwestern held Little Priest to just 18.5 percent shooting (5-27) from behind the 3-point arc.

The Spartans travel to Ellsworth Community College (6-18, 1-8) Wednesday in search of their fourth straight win. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
