Spartans get back on track with win against Simpson JV

A hot shooting day propelled the Southwestern Community College men's basketball team to a 113-75 home win over Simpson College's JV team Sunday, Jan. 20, in the SWCC Student Center gymnasium. The win snapped an eight-game losing skid for the Spartans.

The Spartans shot 59.7 percent from the field and 54.8 percent (17-31) from behind the 3-point arc in the victory, including a perfect shooting day from sophomore Gatdoar Kueth, who finished 6-of-6 from the floor and 5-of-5 from behind the 3-point line on his way to an 18-point performance.

Kueth was one of six Spartan players who scored in double figures, led by sophomore Jordan Doss, who scored 19 points with five rebounds off the bench. Sophomore D'Marqueyon Whittington finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the victory. Chad Moran added 15 points with five rebounds, Rasheed Barze scored 15 points with a team-high nine boards and Trevonte Diggs finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Ryan Warren dished out nine assists.

Southwestern improved to 11-8 for the season with the win.
