Southwestern Spartans Golf Team Ties for Fourth Place Finish at North Central District Championship Preview

Creston, IA – April 9, 2024 – The Southwestern Spartans men's golf team showcased their talent and resilience at the North Central District Championship Preview held at Gates Park Course in Waterloo, IA, hosted by Hawkeye CC. Competing against formidable opponents including two ranked inside the top-10 currently, the Spartans displayed remarkable skill, securing a tied fourth-place finish in the highly competitive tournament.

In a field filled with top-tier competition, the Southwestern Spartans rose to the challenge, matching the performance of Northeast to claim a notable spot on the leaderboard. Led by standout performances from individual players, the Spartans demonstrated their competitive spirit and determination on the course.

Individually, Isac Fredriksson spearheaded the Spartans' effort with an impressive score of 74, tying for fifth place in the tournament and only one shot back of the leaders. His stellar performance was bolstered by strong showings from teammates Chase Copeland, Charlie McDonald, Sofus Lyck, and Maddux Weeks, who contributed significantly to the team's success. Also competing for the Spartans was Sophomore, Ethan Badolato.

Coach North commended the team for their improvement on getting to where they are. "We have the ability to compete, and sometimes it takes proving that to yourself, first. We were two shots out of solo third place and that shows that its going to be a tight race when it comes down to the district championship in May."

The North Central District Championship Preview served as a valuable opportunity for the Spartans to gauge their progress and refine their skills as they prepare for upcoming competitions. With a solid foundation established at this event, the Southwestern Spartans men's golf team is poised for continued success in the remainder of the season.
