The Southwestern Spartans men's golf team faced a challenging field at the Kansas City Cup, hosted by William Jewell College at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, MO, on September 23-24, 2024. Competing in the NCAA Division II event, the Spartans finished in 10th place out of 13 teams, concluding the tournament with a cumulative score of +73.

Individual Performances:

  1. Freddie Muggeridge had an outstanding tournament, finishing tied for 8th with a total score of +5. He shot a remarkable second round of 71 (-1), showcasing his ability to navigate the course effectively and post a solid score when the team needed it.

  2. Alexander Cordrey contributed significantly, finishing tied for 27th with a score of +16. His rounds of 76, 80, and 76 reflected consistent effort and determination, particularly in the final round where he managed to stabilize his performance.

  3. Elliot Lorentzon ended the tournament tied for 41st at +23. He battled through rounds of 82, 82, and 75, demonstrating grit despite the demanding conditions of the course.

  4. Kamron Brownlee and Sofus Lyck both faced challenges but showed tenacity. Brownlee finished tied for 57th with a total of +34 (86, 81, 83), while Lyck ended at +33 (86, 77, 86), placing him tied for 55th. Their performances reflected the learning experience the team will build on for future competitions.

The competition was fierce, with Rockhurst College taking first place with a score of +24, followed closely by William Jewell (+25) and McKendree University (+29). The Spartans faced a blend of seasoned teams that highlighted the level of play required at this tournament.

Despite the difficulties encountered, the Southwestern Spartans gained valuable experience competing against strong NCAA Division II teams. As they look ahead to upcoming tournaments, the team aims to refine their strategies and enhance their performances based on this experience.
