Southwestern Spartans to Honor GCAA Academic National Champions

Southwestern Community College invites faculty, staff, students, and the public to join us in celebrating the 2023-2024 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Academic National Champions. The recognition ceremony will take place at halftime of the Spartans women's basketball game on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 1:00 PM in the Spartan Gym, located on the Creston campus.

The Spartans men's golf team achieved an extraordinary milestone this past season by winning the GCAA Academic National Championship, which recognizes the team with the highest cumulative GPA in collegiate golf, in their respective level. This remarkable achievement underscores the commitment of these student-athletes to excellence both on the course and in the classroom.

Head Coach Doug North, who has guided the Spartans to success both academically and athletically, reflected on this historic accomplishment:

"We have been in the top-5 a few times, academically, but this is a career moment. Winning a golf National Championship is a goal every year, and a few years back we added a 3.60 team GPA to that goal list, and that worked out well. These young people are my WHY, accomplishments like this are a stepping stone for what they'll accomplish in life. Congrats to these young men on a job well done."

This recognition ceremony provides an opportunity to honor the dedication, perseverance, and teamwork that propelled the Spartans to the top of the national academic leaderboard. It also showcases Southwestern Community College's commitment to fostering well-rounded student-athletes who excel in all aspects of their collegiate experience.
