Mount Ayr sprinters ink with Spartans

Recent Mount Ayr graduates Hunter Haveman and Connor Eaton sign their National Letters of Intent to join the Southwestern track and field team for the 2019-20 season.

A pair of Mount Ayr sprinters signed National Letters of Intent to join the Southwestern track and field program for the 2019-20 season.

Connor Eaton and Hunter Haveman each played a large role in Mount Ayr's success at the 2019 Co-ed State Track Meet in May at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Both Eaton and Haveman ran on Mount Ayr's medal-winning 4x100, 4x200, 800 medley and 4x400 relay teams.

The Raiders finished sixth in the Class 2A 4x100 relay, fourth in both the Class 2A 4x200 and 800 medley relays and finished as runner-up in the Class 2A 4x400 relay, with Haveman anchoring that relay in 48.9. Eaton and Haveman helped the Raiders break the Mount Ayr school records in each of those relays this season.

In addition to their successful campaign at the 2019 state meet, Eaton qualified for state in 2018 as a member of the 4x400 and 1,600 medley relays, while Haveman qualified in the 4x400 relay in 2017, helping the Raiders to a sixth-place finish.

Eaton is the son of Chris and Patty Eaton of Mount Ayr, and Haveman is the son of Dan and Jennifer Haveman of Mount Ayr.
