The Southwestern Community College track and field program is hosting a Track Guy Throws Clinic designed for high school student-athletes on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the Southwestern Student Center gymnasium. Middle school students interested in throwing may also attend.

During the event, attendees will hear from the Track Guy himself, Mike Jay, the voice of the Drake Relays and PA announcer for numerous races at all levels of competition, who travels the country sharing his passion for cross country and track and field with student-athletes. Jay was honored in 2014 as the nation’s top track and field announcer by Track and Field Writers of America.

In addition, student-athletes will learn helpful drills and techniques from Mike Mullin, Southwestern assistant track and field coach, who has held the Creston High School shot put record since 1985 and is No. 4 on the list at Midland University for all-time outdoor shot put; Jennifer Bissell, four-time national qualifier in the discus at William Jewell College and now throws coach at Griswold High School; TJ Dunphy, a Drake Relays qualifier and third-place state meet finisher in shot put; and Dan Zuniga, shot put record holder for Columbus Community High School and now throws coach at West Branch High School.

The cost to attend is $30 and includes a Track Guy T-shirt. To register, please visit https://www.trackguyusa.com/events/. Walk-ins are welcome, but the shirt will be mailed at a later date for these attendees.
