Spartans Open Up Indoor Season

The Spartan men and women kicked off their indoor track and field season in school-record fashion. Head Coach Trey Bruton explains, "This was the best first meet that I have been a part of. We broke a number of school records and really got the season started off on the right foot." The Southwestern men and women stayed close to home to compete in a NCAA Division II-heavy event held at Northwest Missouri State University. Coach Bruton finished, "Starting at the level we did gives me a lot of hope for how the rest of this year will go. I know we can achieve a lot this year. We will grow and get better as a team with everyone doing their part."

Notable performances -

Roland Hure. Tied the school record in the long jump with a 6.81 meter jump. He also ran 7.06 in the 60 meter dash.

Brandon Thompson. Set a new school record in the shot put, throwing 12.94 meters. Set a new school record in the weight throw, throwing 9.35 meters. 

Benjamin Aliel. Finished 4th in the 400 meter, running a time of 49.13.

Elenani Tinai. Broke her own school record  in the long jump at 5.43 meters.

Fane Sauvakacolo. Set the triple jump school record jumping 9.91 meters.
