Spartans sign Koppa for 2020 season

Red Oak senior Connor Koppa signs with the Southwestern Community College cross country program.

Southwestern Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach Trey Bruton announced the first signing for the program's 2020 season.

Red Oak senior Connor Koppa signed his National Letter of Intent Tuesday afternoon to join the Spartan cross country and track programs next fall.

Koppa, the son of Terry Koppa, has been a varsity contributor for the Red Oak Tigers for multiple years and a state track qualifier. In addition to cross country and track, Koppa is an accomplished musician at Red Oak. Koppa is a member of the SWIBA Honor Band, and has been named to the Nebraska Wesleyan Honor Choir both his junior and senior years. He has received Division-I ratings at solo ensemble and large group. In addition, Koppa composed a piece for the Red Oak High School pep band. He has also received the Outstanding Academic Achievement award all four years of high school.

"We are excited to have Connor be a part of our program," Bruton said. "What drew us to him was his work ethic, drive to succeed, and ability to lead by example. From a coaching perspective, he is exactly what you want in an athlete. He will be a key component to our success in both cross country and track next year."
