SHENANDOAH - Southwestern Community College Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Scott Vicker recently announced the addition of Bryce McDowell to the program for the 2020-21 season.

McDowell, the son of Kevin and Linda McDowell of Shenandoah, signed his National Letter of Intent Tuesday morning at Shenandoah High School.

McDowell is a two-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and track and field, and has also won a varsity letter in wrestling. He has also received the Team Leader Award at Shenandoah High School. McDowell ran 18:43.59 at his home course in Shenandoah this past cross country season.

He will be the third Shenandoah runner to sign with the Spartans in the past two years, joining high school teammates Levi Detrick and Nicholas Mather on the squad next year.

"Bryce is someone I'm very excited to have join the program because I think he has a great deal of potential," Vicker said. "He has only run cross country for two years in high school, so there is a lot of potential for growth. Levi and Nick made great strides during their freshman year, and so we have a great blueprint for Bryce to follow. He is just an all-around great kid and we are excited to add him into our mix for next year."

McDowell will graduate from Shenandoah High School in May 2021 and will study accounting at Southwestern.
