Southwestern Community College is proud to announce that freshman Brandon Briley has been recognized as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Cross Country. Briley earned this distinction following an impressive performance at the recent Seminole Valley Stampede.
Competing against a field of 212 runners, Briley achieved a remarkable 63rd-place finish, clocking in a personal-best 8k time of 26:37.8. This outstanding result marks a significant improvement of 87 seconds from his previous best and is a testament to his dedication and talent as he competes in only his third cross country race.
Briley's performance not only showcases his individual capabilities but also highlights his potential within the Spartan program. Notably, he finished ten spots ahead of last week's Division II XC Runner of the Week, Blayze Havel from Southeastern Community College. Additionally, his time stands as the sixth fastest in Southwestern's cross country history, further solidifying his place among the program's top athletes.
Brandon Briley's achievement exemplifies the high standards and aspirations of Southwestern Community College's athletic programs. The Spartans look forward to seeing his continued growth and success in the upcoming races.
