Southwestern Spartans Men’s Cross Country Team Ranked in Top-20 Heading to NJCAA National Championship

CRESTON, Iowa – Southwestern Community College's Men's Cross Country team has earned a spot among the nation's elite, entering the NJCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship ranked No. 19 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) final coaches' poll for 2024. This impressive ranking reflects a season marked by consistent performances and hard-earned results against formidable opponents, setting the Spartans up for a promising showing at the championship meet.

The championship event, scheduled for Saturday, November 9, at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia, is expected to bring together the best junior college programs from across the country. The Spartans will face strong competition from top-ranked teams, including No. 1 Des Moines Area CC, No. 2 Lansing CC, and several other top-5 programs, making this a highly competitive field.

Head Coach Scott Vicker, in his 5th season with the Spartans (one as assistant coach), has guided the team through a challenging season, with his athletes demonstrating continuous growth and commitment to achieving their best.
