Spartan Softball Gains Versatile Missouri Player

Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Head Softball Coach Lindsay Stumpff recently added Maryville High School's Amanda Volner to the Spartan line-up for the 2016-2017 softball season. Volner, who can play pitcher, shortstop, and left field, will provide a lot of versatility for the Spartans.

Volner, currently a senior at Maryville High School in Maryville, MO, will bring a wealth of experience to the Spartans, having received various honors during her time as a Spoofhound. In 2014, she was named All-District second team as an outfielder and All-Conference honorable mention in left field. Volner was again named All-Conference honorable mention in 2015 as a pitcher.

Stumpff is looking forward to having Volner join the Spartan program in the fall.

"We are very excited to have signed a very talented pitcher," Stumpff said. "Amanda brings a great knowledge of the game to the team."

Volner said she decided to begin her college career at SWCC because its proximity is close enough to visit her family, but offers her the chance to develop some independence. She also cited the atmosphere on campus made her feel safe and comfortable, along with a reassured feeling of finding success.

She is the daughter of Tony and Ann Volner of Maryville, MO.
