Creston, IA—The Spartans of Southwestern Community College headed south to Bedford to pick up their latest recruit for the 2019-20 softball roster. Makinna Russell, a senior at Bedford High School, will become a Spartan in the fall of 2019.

Spartan Head Coach Nick Weinmeister said Russell has had a successful high school career both on the infield and behind the plate.

"Makinna will come in and compete for time as a catcher here at Southwestern," stated Weinmeister. "We look forward to seeing her improve the competition at that position for us."

Russell was an honorable mention all-conference, second team all-district, and honorable mention all-state selection during high school. She lettered in softball, volleyball, track, basketball, and cheerleading all four years. In addition, she has been named to the honor roll.

She is the daughter of Jeff and Rhonda Russell of Bedford.
