4 Spartans earn all-region honors

Southwestern's Kaitlyn Schad, Ali Enright, Ella Rutherford and Klarissa McElroy all earned all-region honors.

Southwestern softball placed four players on the All-Region XI teams in the first season back on the diamond for the Spartans.

Kaitlyn Schad earned first-team honors as a catcher, while Klarissa McElroy, Ella Rutherford and Ali Enright all received honorable mention.

Schad tied for the team lead, scoring 35 runs, and roped a team-high 58 hits, including 17 doubles and four triples. She added three home runs and ranked second on the team with 30 runs batted in. Schad drew 17 compared to just 10 strikeouts for the season and was also successful on 14 stolen base attempts to lead the Spartans. She finished with a team-high .358 batting average and a team-leading .568 slugging percentage. Behind the dish, Schad caught 10 runners trying to steal and posted a fielding percentage of .954.

McElroy also scored 35 runs for the Spartans and ranked second on the team with 48 hits. McElroy knocked five doubles, one triple and five home runs while driving in 19 runs and drawing 24 walks. She stole six bases. McElroy's final slash batting average of .329 ranked second on the team, while her .424 on-base percentage ranked first.

Rutherford hit .283 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs for the Spartans while playing first base. She posted a team-high .958 fielding percentage.

Enright provided pop in the Spartan lineup with her team-high eight home runs and 36 RBIs. She ranked second on the team with a .503 slugging percentage. Enright scored 28 runs and knocked 45 hits, including 13 doubles, which ranked second on the team.

Southwestern finished the season 15-41 overall and 10-18 in ICCAC Division II play, finishing fifth in the conference behind four nationally ranked teams in head coach Nick Weinmeister's first year at the helm.
