Spartans add Waddle for 2020 season

Lauryn Waddle signs her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Southwestern in 2020.

CAINSVILLE, Missouri - Southwestern Head Softball Coach Nick Weinmeister recently announced the signing of Lauryn Waddle for the 2020 season.

Waddle will join the Spartan softball team after being a two-sport standout at Cainsville R-1 in Cainsville, Mo. Waddle is the daughter of Mark and Dixie Waddle.

At Cainsville R-1, Waddle was a first-team all-conference softball player as a sophomore and senior, including earning first-team all-district honors as a senior.

She also excelled on the basketball court, scoring more than 1,000 career points. She was a unanimous first-team all-conference pick as a senior after being named to the second team as a sophomore and junior. She received first-team all-district honors as a junior and sophomore and was named the St. Joseph Newspress Athlete of the Week as a sophomore.

Academically, Waddle has been a member of National Honor Society as a junior and senior and was named to the High Honor Roll all four years of high school. Waddle, who ranks second in her class, was selected for and attended the Grundy Electric Youth Leadership Tour in Jefferson City, Mo., as a junior and also received the Wendy's High School Heisman award as the school's recipient and top 20 in the state.

"Lauryn comes from the smallest high school in Missouri, but she plays with a lot of pride and passion knowing a lot of their success rests on her shoulders," Weinmeister said. "That being said, she comes to SWCC as a versatile athlete who has excelled in a number of athletic opportunities and, when she arrives in the fall, will have the opportunity to solely focus on softball. We are excited to get a great student-athlete like Lauryn who is driven to succeed and we are excited to see what she can do during her time as a Spartan.”
