The Southwestern Spartan softball team traveled to Arkansas for an outstanding weekend, highlighted by Freshman, Jenna Parfeniuk. Southwestern earned victories over North Arkansas Community College (9-2, 10-2, 14-2) and Coffeyville Community College (3-2) over the long weekend.

"It was great to see us come out with energy and maintain over the course of four games," says Head Coach Nick Weinmeister on the weekend. "We had a couple players that came up in big spots for us and any time you can sweep a weekend you are able to carry that momentum into the next games."

Those big spots came from Parfeniuk and fellow-Freshman, Paige Shwaluk. Parfeniuk was 10-15 at the plate with six doubles and a walk-off hit against Coffeyville. Shwaluk scored ten runs over the weekend, including the game-winner against Coffeyville. Defensively, Shwaluk made two diving plays from her position at short-stop.

Pitching is a major key to success in college softball and Weinmeister knows that will be a strength, "Our pitchers did a great job throwing strikes and forcing weak contact, and our defense was strong all weekend." Parfeniuk ended the weekend with two wins, Sophomores Kelsey Tibbs and Ali Enright each earned one victory.

The next five double-headers will all be at the Spartan softball fields throughout March. See the schedule here: https://www.southwesternspartans.com/sports/sball/2019-20/schedule
