Spartans sign Murray's Jayda Chew

Creston, IA—Murray High School senior Jayda Chew signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball for the Southwestern Community College Spartans beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Chew, a multi-sport athlete, has received numerous accolades during her high school sports career in basketball, softball, track, and volleyball. Softball highlights include honorable mention all-state, all-district, unanimous first team all-conference, and .400 Club in 2022; unanimous second team all-conference in 2021; and stolen base leader in 2022 and 2021.

In addition to athletics, Chew excels in the classroom. High school academic honors include all-state academic awards for volleyball and basketball (2019-present); Bluegrass Conference Academic Awards in volleyball and basketball (2019-present), track (2021-present), and softball (2020-present). She has been on the high honor roll since 2019.

Tessa Otto, Southwestern assistant softball coach, has been Chew's head coach at Murray High School for her entire high school career.

"Jayda is such an amazing student-athlete," Otto said. "She will be a tremendous asset for our Spartans!"

Chew is the daughter of Monty and Sherri Chew of Murray. She will graduate high school in May 2023.
