SPARTANS SOFTBALL SHOWS RESILIENCE IN SPRING BREAK GAMES

Creston, IA - March 18, 2024 - The Southwestern Spartans softball team displayed their determination and skill in a series of intense matchups over spring break, showcasing their potential for a successful season.

In their latest showdown against Moberly CC, the Spartans experienced a heartbreaker, narrowly losing 3-2 in a hard-fought battle. However, they quickly turned the tide in game two, securing a dominant 11-3 victory. Freshman standout Jayleigh Robins made her mark with a three-run blast, supported by another impressive performance from freshman Lily McCrae, who launched a solo homer. Freshman Cora Ostrem pitched five strong innings to clinch the win, while freshman Kirsten Streeter came in to secure the save.

In a split series against Labette CC, the Spartans faced a similar challenge, falling short in game one with a score of 6-14 but rebounding with a solid 3-1 victory in game two. Freshman pitcher Erika Kruse showcased her skills, pitching a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out seven and issuing only one walk. Jayleigh Robins once again shined with a powerful home run, contributing to the team's success.

Looking ahead, the Spartans are gearing up for their next contest at home against Ellsworth CC on Tuesday at 1 PM. With their resilience and talent on full display, the Spartans are poised to continue their pursuit of victory and growth throughout the season.
