SOUTHWESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOFTBALL DOMINATES MARSHALLTOWN WITH BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES

The Southwestern Spartans Softball Team showcased their prowess on the field with an impressive double-header sweep against Marshalltown Community College on April 21, 2024.

In the first game, the Spartans dominated the scoreboard with a commanding 15-1 victory over Marshalltown. Erika Kruse, a standout freshman, delivered an outstanding performance, securing two home runs. Additionally, Jayleigh Robins contributed significantly with three home runs, while Haley Keller added another to the Spartans' impressive offensive display. Freshman pitcher Erika Kruse showcased her talent on the mound, pitching the entire game with nine strikeouts.

The second game saw the Spartans maintain their momentum, clinching an 8-3 victory over Marshalltown. Key players such as Robins, Kirsten Streeter, and Keller stepped up to secure crucial hits and runs for the team. Freshman pitcher Cora Ostrem displayed her skill, pitching the entire game and leading the Spartans to another triumph.

Coach Danny Jensen expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing the collective effort and individual contributions that led to the victories. He commended players such as Kruse, Robins, and Keller for their exceptional performances and leadership on the field.

With these victories secured, the Southwestern Spartans now turn their focus to their upcoming game against Ellsworth on Tuesday, ready to continue their winning streak.
