Three Southwestern softball players received All-Region honors, as announced by the ICCAC on Wednesday.
Freshman Erika Kruse received first-team honors, while sophomore Ashton Willis and freshman Jayleigh Robins were each named to the second team.
Kruse was named to the first team at a utility spot. The freshman from Fort Madison played both pitcher and first base for the Spartans. Kruse pitched in 26 games for the Spartans, starting 19 of them, and posting a 6-13 record with two saves. She led the Spartans with 103 2/3 innings pitched and 80 strikeouts. Offensively, Kruse tied for the team lead with 10 home runs and ranked second with 39 RBI, while batting .447 to lead the team.
Willis played an important role for the Spartans on the left side of the infield, playing both third base and shortstop. Willis hit .401 to rank second on the team, scoring a team-high 39 runs. She collected 55 base hits, including eight doubles, three triples, and four home runs. She drove in 25 runs. Defensively, Willis posted a .933 fielding percentage in 90 total chances.
Robins, from Eagleville, Missouri, was named to the all-region team as an outfielder. She also played catcher and first base for the Spartans. Robins tied Kruse for the team lead with 10 home runs, while driving in a team-high 48 runs and scoring 39 runs to tie for the team lead. She hit .386 for the season, ranking third on the team.
