Creston, IOWA—Sports shooting and archery enthusiast Grant Goering will take his sports shooting skills to the collegiate level and compete on Southwestern Community College's sports shooting team in college starting with the fall 2019 semester.

Goering, who will graduate from Chariton High School in May 2019, has competed in a 4-H shooting program for a number of years. He has been an Iowa 4-H shooting sports ambassador for three years; a national shooting sports ambassador; a 4-H national qualifier in archery, shotgun, air rifle, and hunting skills; and a National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) state qualifier for four years.

In addition to sports shooting and archery, during high school, Goering was named to the National Honor Society, received a Silver Card Community Service award, and earned an Iowa Farmer Degree.

Marc Roberg, Southwestern's head sports shooting coach, said he has enjoyed watching Goering shoot for a number of years.

"Grant has a very accurate shot and has proven it during many competitions and under some extremely tedious weather conditions," Roberg stated. "He should make an immediate impact on our sports shooting team."

He is the son of Melissa and Sean Goering of Lucas.
