The Southwestern sports shooting team competed against Southeastern CC at the High Lakes Shooting Range on Sept. 22, 2018, during its second meet of the year. Southeastern defeated the Spartans 478 to 457.

Blake Binns led the way for the Spartans with a 94, Makenna Lilly finished with a 92, Courtney Nielsen with a 91, and Tyllar Roesener and Kyle Redinbaugh both finished with 90, to round out the team scoring.  The men were shut out of medals. Lilly finished third for the women.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Spartans traveled to the Stockdale Gun Club at Ackley to take on Ellsworth Community College. Southwestern came out victorious, 467 to 428.

In the men’s division, Binns and Roesener both shot 96 to tie for second. Binns won the reverse run count and took second with Roesener taking third.

In the women’s event, Nielsen won a shoot-off with Brie Pratt of Ellsworth to take top honors. Both shot 92. Lilly finished third with a 91. The weather was overcast and cool, but at least it wasn’t raining and the wind was not a factor. This is Nielsen’s second first place finish in the women’s division this year. Lilly has grabbed third place in the women’s division in all three conference meets.

Both Roesener and Binns have been on the medal stand with Roesener having second and third place finishes this year and Binns having a third and a second.

Summarizing these events, Head Coach Marc Roberg said, "We seem to be getting a little better each meet. We just need to be more consistent as a team."

The Spartans next travel to Iowa Western on October 13.
