If you haven't heard, COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into college athletics. The same goes for the non-traditional sports, like Southwestern's Sports Shooting team. While the fall Iowa Community College Athletic Conference schedule will be shot "virtually" this year, that didn't throw the Spartans off.

A virtual shoot takes some coordination as both teams will shoot at their home ranges, but will face each other head-to-head. Each team shoots at their home venue on a day and time selected by each team, submits their scores to the ICCAC, and final results are shared when all schools are complete.

The Spartans earned victory #1 on the year, leading the entire athletic department, over Northwest Iowa Community College. Southwestern shot a team score of 462, which Northwest Iowa shot a score of 426. "They shot well for their first shoot," says Josh Purdy, head coach. "Nerves play a big part during competition. If we could get them to shut that off, we will have some better scores. They are only going to get better from here!"
