Spartans add Creston all-stater Baker

Brielle Baker signs her National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Southwestern Community College.

The all-time leading scorer in Creston girls basketball is staying home to continue her academic and athletic careers, as Southwestern Head Women's Basketball Coach Bryan Austin announced the signing of Brielle Baker earlier this month.

Baker, the daughter of Brad and Becky Baker of Creston, will graduate from Creston Community High School in May 2019.

She is the Panthers' all-time career leading scorer with 1,189 points. Baker earned second-team all-state honors in her senior season after ranking second for the Panthers with 15.3 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. She led the Panthers with 69 assists, 63 steals, 65 made free throws and 35 made 3-pointers. She owns school records for most steals in a game and in a season.

Baker is one of the most decorated female student-athletes in recent years at CCHS. In addition to earning second-team all-state honors, she was a first-team all-conference selection as a junior and senior, IBCA all-district team selection as a sophomore, junior and senior, IBCA all-region team selection as a sophomore, junior and senior. Baker is a three-year letterwinner in cross country, qualifying for state three times. In track and field, she is a four-year letterwinner, qualifying for state three years and owns school records in the distance medley relay and 1,500 meters. She is also a four-year letterwinner in softball. She has been named academic all-conference in cross country and basketball.

"We are thrilled to have Brielle continue her academic and playing career with us," Austin said. "She excels on and off the court, which is a great thing. We are also excited for her to continue the family tradition and follow in her father's footsteps playing in a Spartan uniform."
