Spartan women cruise past Ellsworth

Led by three student-athletes posting double-doubles, the Southwestern Community College women's basketball team picked up its first conference victory of the season Wednesday, 78-46, over Ellsworth Community College in the SWCC Student Center gymnasium.

Tina Lair-Van Meter, C'Anne Hunter and Simone Jordan all recorded double-double performances in the win. Lair-Van Meter, who leads the ICCAC in rebounding, posted a game-high 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Hunter added 12 points with 13 boards and Jordan finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kierra Brice added 16 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.

Remie Haynes scored nine points with seven rebounds and Vanessa Romo added seven points.  Kayela Willis pitched in five points with five rebounds.

The win improved Southwestern to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in ICCAC play. The Spartans return to action 1 p.m. Saturday in Winnebago, Nebraska, against ICCAC foe Little Priest Tribal Community College, which currently sits at 9-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
