Spartan women shut down Ellsworth

IOWA FALLS - The Southwestern Community College women shut down Ellsworth Community College in the second and third quarters en route to an 82-51 win Wednesday.

Trailing 22-19 after one quarter, Southwestern outscored the Panthers 24-7 in the second quarter and 21-9 in the third quarter to cruise to the victory.

The win improved the Spartans to 10-14 overall and 4-8 in the ICCAC. Ellsworth fell to 0-25 and 0-12.

Five Spartan players finished in double figures scoring, led by Tina Lair-Van Meter's 16-point, 10-rebound performance for a double-double. Madelyn Moya chipped in 13 points with four rebounds and three steals, while Simone Jordan also finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds. Kayela Willis added 11 points and C'Anne Hunter recorded 10 points with four rebounds. Vanessa Romo scored seven points with four assists and Jasmine Aviles added six points with eight rebounds.

Southwestern travels to Iowa Central Community College for a 1 p.m. game Saturday. Iowa Central sits at 12-12 overall and 3-8 in ICCAC play.
